You've Listened. Now What?

In Module 3, you learned how to become a more effective listener.

But what happens when another student shares something with you that requires more than listening?

As a peer educator, you may encounter situations where someone needs information, additional support, a referral, or immediate assistance.

Your role isn't to solve every problem.

Your role is to listen, respond appropriately, understand your boundaries, and help connect someone with additional support when needed.

What You'll Learn

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

Identify the six steps in the Plan of Action.
Understand the importance and limits of confidentiality.
Recognize when a referral may be appropriate.
Identify campus and community resources.
Understand your role when responding to someone in crisis.
Recognize when a situation requires additional or immediate support.

These concepts reflect the Module 4 learning outcomes in the CPE Student Workbook.

Before You Begin

Open your CPE Student Workbook to Module 4.

You will use your workbook throughout this module to take notes, complete activities, and think through different situations you may encounter as a peer educator.

Keep This Question in Mind

How can I support someone without taking responsibility for solving their problem?
