Even when we want to be good listeners, things can get in the way.

The CPE Student Workbook identifies several potential barriers:

Have you ever:

📱 Looked at your phone while someone was talking?

💭 Started thinking about what you were going to say next?

⚡ Jumped immediately into problem-solving mode?

👀 Made up your mind about someone's situation before hearing the whole story?

We've all experienced listening barriers.

The goal is to become more aware of them.

You don't need to submit this response.

Think about:

Which listening barrier are you most likely to experience?

Then ask yourself:

What is one thing you could do to reduce that barrier?
