The future of Yeezys

It wasn’t too long ago that we were in period where Yeezys would sell out almost instantly. Every release leading up to recently has been limited in supply and overflowing with hype, resulting in shoes that would sky rocket in price. Prices would get so high on sites such as StockX that fans would sometimes be left having to purchase fake Yeezys just to get their favourite colorway.

So has this changed? Well you may recall that when the Yeezy Boost 350 triple white’s dropped, they were available for purchase on the official Yeezy Supply Site for over a week! That may not sound like much but these are fake Yeezys we’re talking about, instant sell outs is common among this brand. It’s worth noting though, that Adidas.com had them listed as selling out. This is Kanye’s long term vision and so Adidas is supporting him but heavily increasing the production of Yeezys. The vision exactly is to produce enough Yeezys so that they are more available for anyone who wishes to purchase them. There are issues with this vision however, as it goes against everything that is known to work when it comes to hype fashion. The whole idea by building brands via hype it to get people keen on a product by releasing less items than you’d expect to sell, this results in everything selling out instantly when released and you item becoming a highly prized possession in the eyes of fans. This can also lead to some manufacturers producing fake copies, as is known to happen with fake yeezys being on the rise, but the overall gain is much more worth it than this one minor fact.

History has shown that as Adidas releases an item of clothing and scales up the production of that item, the value of said item decreases. So, it leaves the question, is Kanye a genius or a fool for taking this approach? No one can really know for now but what I can say is that I will definitely be supporting Kanye for his noble efforts to create a shoe for all.
